Student´ Satisfaction who are Studying the Specialization in Family Medicine at the Mexican Social Security Institute

ABSTRACT

Objective: to identify the satisfaction of the student group has in the Specialization Course in Family Medicine for General Practitioners (CEMFMG) of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). Material and methods: a questionnaire with 22 questions applied to 324 students in third year of the specialization, about their satisfaction with the course in the following areas: a) the educational process; b) medical care; c) research; d) personal self satisfaction. To obtain the frequencies and the demographic profile it was used the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) version 12. Results: 320 out of 324 students answered the questionnaire (98.8%). The largest age group was between 30 and 49 years (77.7%). Years of practice ranged from 10 to 25. 99.1% of students were pleased with the progress in improving the medical care offered to patients, followed by medical research with 93.8%, 91.6% self-satisfaction and staff satisfaction with the teaching of the specialization course 83.4%. All areas of satisfaction of the courses were statistically significant (p ‹0.001). Conclusions: generation 2005–2008 of the CEMFMG of the IMSS was satisfactory (89.6%). The areas of greatest satisfaction were health care, medical research, self-satisfaction and teaching of the course. The results of this study may contribute to better assess the impact of this course.
