ABSTRACT
Aim: To know the semantic meaning pregnant teenagers give to love, sex and pregnancy.
Material and methods: A questionnaire with three stimulus questions was administered to 807 pregnant teenagers.
Results: 12.0% do not know any contraceptive method. 70.0% did not plan the pregnancy. 21.3% faced pregnancy-related complications. 16.1% out of the former stated they had a negative meaning about love; 20% had a negative meaning about sex; and 20.6% had a negative meaning about pregnancy. The ones who planned the pregnancy wanted to have a baby; which might indicate this group develops motherhood needs at an early age.
Conclusions and arguments: Hence, semantic meaning for the word «love» is scarce. Contrary, the meaning of the word «sex» had several meanings, from which «biological need for reproduction» was the most defining one. «Pregnancy» has the second position for semantic richness; and the most defining meaning for such term is happiness.
