ABSTRACT

We report the case of a patient with active discoid lupus erythematosus, in which the EL cells phenomenon was observed in peripheral blood. EL cells are polymorphonuclear cells containing DNA in their cytoplasm which was phagocytosed by autoantibodies dependent mechanism. The finding of these cells supports the diagnosis of lupus erythematosus. In this paper, we discuss the case of a patient who presented this phenomenon.
