ABSTRACT

Pulmonary hematomas are a rare complication after chest trauma. Its main complications and which constitute indication for surgery in these patients are infection, hemoptysis and suspected malignancy. The rupture of them into the pleural cavity is an adverse event seldom described. We report the case of a patient with a hematoma of the lower lobe of the left lung, three weeks of evolution, broken into the pleural cavity and successfully treated by videothoracoscopic surgery.
