ABSTRACT

Introduction: the organizational culture, given by the history, the rituals, the symbols, and the staff permanence, among others is a concept comprising the common perception shared by the members of an organization. It rules the specific behaviour of workers. Putting into practice a Quality Assurance System (QAS), and learning it, is a change that must be incorporated by the workers into their own culture.
Objective: to characterize the organizational culture of the National Center of Toxicology and determining the factors of the implementation of the QAS , that directly influenced on the culture of the organization during the change process.
Results: the culture of the National Center of toxicology is strong, and the founders have played an essential role in its history, with identity and a proper language, with a high sense of belonging and permanence of the staff. It was not easy the introduction of a QAS, the greatest challenge was to encourage people to join the new working process, changing their mentality took time and training.
Conclusions: the influence of QAS on the organizational culture of the center is satisfactory, the will power of the administration and the sensitiveness of the heads of the processes as leaders of the quality activities in their areas, are the main factors for the acceptance of the change process, hence, the culture of the organization members though deeply rooted in their workers, can be modified for reaching better collective results.
