ABSTRACT

To evaluate the results obtained with the laparoscopic appendectomy to qualify the safety and effective alternative. A retrospective study, in a trial of 64 obtained patients of the Hospital Angeles de las Lomas and of the Hospital Español de México, from 1997 to June of the 2001 in a group of surgeons. Each patient underwent laparoscopic surgery, to the surgeon’s approach. Results: The average of length of hospital stay was of 68.12 hours, the average of surgical time was of 66.96. there were lower complications as ileus in 6 (9.37%) patient, fever in 3 (4.68%), 3 higher complications as infection of the trocar place, (2 onfalitis), and 5 cases of conversion (7.28%), 2 for acute inflammatory process that worsted the mobilization of the appendix, 1 appendix laceration, 1 abscess and 1 peritonitis, 13 patients they were placed drainage (20.31%). Conclusions: The above-mentioned demonstrates that the technique is safe and effective that can be carried out in any patient, still in cases of perforated appendix or gangrenous, without more complications. These results are promising to begin a study prospective randomized trial.
