ABSTRACT

In the INCMNSZ between 2013 and 2014 a comparison of the preanalytical error, attributable to the open system for the collection of urine in the General Urine Examination and the Closed Collection System, was performed. During this period it was observed that during the year 2013, the average error attributable to the vessel was 1.75%, comparing the same period for 2014, it was observed that the average error was 0.79%, which implied a reduction of 55%. Improvement attributable to the change from the collection system open to closed. The safety of patients and health personnel was increased with the use of the new system by not presenting spills that contaminate the conical tube in which the analysis is performed. By having a closed and sterile system, the probability of contamination of the sample decreased, assuring the quality of the sample, reducing the preanalytical error due to spills during the collection procedure, and thus increasing the reliability of the result.
