ABSTRACT

A study of correlation analytic retrospective about the behavior of postoperative complications in elderly patients undergoing major surgery urgent general and regional anesthesia was performed at the Hospital Dr. Agostinho Neto Guantanamo from January 2012 to December 2014. The sample consisted of 56 patients. The variables analyzed were: age, sex, and comorbidity, type of disease, anesthetic methods, hemodynamic stability and postoperative recovery. There was prevalence of females and ages of 70-79 years predominating blood pressure followed by heart disease. Arrhythmia, hypothermia, renal failure, pneumonia and pulmonary thromboembolism, in that order: postoperative complications, among others were found by doctors. Anesthetic recovery was considered good by most patients: 32 patients with regional anesthesia and 7 with general anesthesia. Conclusions and recommendations are provided.
