ABSTRACT

Background: Retinoblastoma is the most common neoplasm of the eye in children.
Objective: To known the signs and symptoms more frequently in retinoblastoma and survival.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 25 retinoblastoma patients from our center at 1979 to 2004.
Results: Retinoblastoma represents 5% of all childhood malignances. Leucocoria was presented in 84%, loss vision in 31%; strabismus in 16%, ocular protrusion 8%, ninety two percent was under two years. Twenty one patients were unilateral 15 (71%) and bilateral 6 (29%). Sixteen eyes were staging I–II all enucled with 93% of survival. Eleven eyes were staging III-IV all laboratotreated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy with 28% of survival.
Conclusion: The most children whose had retinoblastoma are under 2 years, the diagnosis is made by parents, a high percent are diagnostic when present leucocoria or strabismus, these symptoms are typical of retinoblastoma.
