Wood Downes-Ferrés Scale, a useful option to identify the severity in asthmatic crisis

ABSTRACT

Objective: Determine indirectly if the Wood Downes-Ferrés scale (WDF) or the Pulmonary Score (SP) correlates with the clinical condition of children with asthma attacks, as well as with therapeutic decisions. Patients, material and methods: Retrospective study. Correlation of WDF and SP escales with the peripheral saturation of oxygen was assesed. In addition, which of the two scales adhered more to pharmacological decisions. Result: 121 children were studied. WDF scale showed better correlation with peripheral saturation (r = -0.56, p ‹ 0.001 versus PS r = 0.16, p = 0.08); there was low concordance between them (kappa = 0.006, p = 0.36). Therapeutic decisions were closer to the WDF scale. Conclusion: The WDF scale has a good correlation with the clinical condition of children with asthma attacks, as well as with the treatment received.
