Regulation of the access to clinical record with the aim of conducting research in Mexico

ABSTRACT

Research is an ongoing, dynamic process, which in the field of Medicine seeks the generation of new knowledge as well as a better understanding of health and disease. The information that is used with the aim of conducting research is obtained from different sources, being the Clinical Record one of the most important. The information that is obtained from the patient for medical assistance purposes must be protected from the access, use, dissemination of knowledge, modification, unauthorized destruction, since threats to privacy arise from inadequate access to this information. In Mexico, the Mexican Official Norm NOM-004- SSA3-2012 of the clinical record, the General Health Law and the Federal Law of Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties, are the ones that regulate this area.
