ABSTRACT
Endocytosis is a fundamental mechanism for the physiology of eukaryotic cells. In
plants, the study of endocytosis has been developed from the characterization of
mutants, the use of biochemical, microscopic techniques and using chemical agents
that act on the endocytic machinery, typically inhibitors of the endocytic process.
Using these methodologies, it has been possible to explore the endocytosis in plants,
and subsequently it has allowed to understand the importance of this process and
to speed up its characterization at the molecular and cellular level. This review
summarizes the most commonly used chemical agents for the study of endocytosis
in plants, and explains their origin, their effect and the importance of their use to
continue research in this area of plant biology.
