ABSTRACT

Introduction: Dormia basket retention is an infrequent adverse event associated to ERCP. The surgical approach is a therapeutic option. We describe the technique employed in a patient with bile duct stones and retained Dormia basket (RDB) and evaluate the results. Clinical case: A 53 yr-old male patient, who was refer after a failed endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), retained bile duct stone (RBDS) and Dormia basket, as well a chronic reagudizate cholecystitis. We performed a subtotal cholecystectomy, laparoscopic bile duct exploration (LBDE), Dormia basket and RBDS extraction, intraoperative flexible cholangioscopy (IFC) and primary bile duct closure. The patient shows a satisfactory evolution and remains asymptomatic during their follow-up. Conclusions: The minimally access approach (LBDE and IFC) resulted a safe and effective therapeutic option.
