The profession, the schools and the students of dentistry in Mexico

ABSTRACT

In the present paper basic information is given about relations among the profession, the schools and the students of dentistry in Mexico. Analyses are made in relation to national socioeconomic aspects and dental practice, factors influencing dental education, number of dentists in the country, number and distribution of dental schools, and number and distribution of dental students and graduates, by gender. Results about the ways in which relations are carried out among those factors are not optimistic.
It could be prognosticated that there will be a high proportion of graduates that will not be able to enter dental practice, and on the other hand, that there will be a great proportion of Mexican people unable to obtain dental services on the near future.
