Metagenómica y metatranscriptómica para mitigar las emisiones de metano por animales rumiantes

RESUMEN
La ganadería de rumiantes es considerada una de las mayores fuentes antropogénicas del gas metano (CH4). La metanogénesis es parte del proceso digestivo de estos animales y es mediada por los microorganismos presentes en el rumen, responsables no sólo de la pérdida de energía en el animal, que impacta directamente en la productividad del ganado, sino también de la producción del metano que contribuye al incremento del efecto invernadero. Las características funcionales del microbioma del rumen no han sido bien descritas debido a que la mayoría de los microorganismos presentes no son cultivables en condiciones de laboratorio, pero pueden ser estudiados mediante técnicas moleculares, como la metagenómica y la metatranscriptómica. Este artículo de revisión tiene como objetivos además de compilar y difundir la información del impacto ambiental por la industria ganadera, describir algunas de las estrategias experimentales y bioinformáticas que se utilizan en el análisis del microbioma ruminal desde la metagenómica y la metatranscriptómica, para reducir las emisiones de metano por el ganado.REFERENCIAS (EN ESTE ARTÍCULO)
