Prevention of seatbacks. Quality indicator of nursing care

ABSTRACT

Introduction: In 1999, were entered 4,842 patients at the Ignacio Chavez Cardiology (INCICH) 0.47% suffer a seatback, so the incident is very low, these accidents have repercussions of convalescents and is the prolongation for the patient in the institution and arise the economics costs for the complications, the study of Raz and Baretich say that the seatbacks represent between 29 and 89% for all the accidents presented in the hospitals, some writers had make the model of valoration about the risks for avoiding the seatbacks like. Adequate light order in the furniture and physical area cleaning unknowledge about the security, age, life style, movements and all about the to the physical health sensorial limitations neurological situation and alteration emotional the pharmacological treatment and the relation with the dispositive for wandering. The patients hospitalized in the Institute, have the a powerful risk of facing these facts, thus was made a dicing of a protocol of investigation for determined a stand ard of quality about the care of the sick person for avoiding the seatbacks. Objectives: To know the facts of risks of the patients who are in the hospital at the INCICH and stablish an standard unrolling in the prevention of seatbacks. Material and methods: Was made a descriptive investigation, observational and longitudinal in both phases, from January 2001 to April 2002. The population of study were made for 689 nurses who are working at the INRESUMENCICH, it is showed by 152 nurses of the operative area who are giving direct care of each patient hospitalized, in the services of cardiology adults A and B nephrology and pensioners into 3 turns, is included the personal of nursery the operative area who are taking care to the patients in the hospital it is applied the instrumental of auditory make and valuated for measuring this indicator and it is realized an analysis for measuring descriptive statistic for obtaining the table of contents about global efficiency (IEG),the table of contents for case (IEC) the table of efficiency for activity (IEA); according with the results was made a phase of interventions throug the education in service, speak capacity and by writing. Results: In the first phase the table of global contents about proficiency was of 40.56% and in the second was of 77.24%. Conclusions: It is obtained arise the table of contents about efficiency 36.68% which is presented the prevention of seatbacks, thus the acceptation and conscience for the nursery personal who are realizing this procedure, this process it was not possible to find in a personal manual, for that reason it was made since the first observation and stablish the code of development.
