ABSTRACT
Post-mastectomy breast reconstruction represents a
fundamental component of the comprehensive management
of patients treated at the Breast Tumor Unit of the National
Institute of Cancerology (INCAN), aiming to restore body
image and improve quality of life. This review article
underscores the critical need to align patients’ personal
expectations with achievable clinical outcomes from breast
reconstruction in order to optimize satisfaction and overall
well-being. A methodological approach is proposed to
evaluate both objective clinical outcomes and subjective
patient satisfaction using internationally standardized
and validated tools. A profound understanding of the
experiences and expectations of patients treated at
INCAN is essential for the continuous improvement of
care processes and for strengthening the physician-patient
relationship in the context of breast reconstruction.
