ABSTRACT

Objectives: The study was done in order to compare the effect of quinfamida vs nitazoxanida in the treatment of intestinal amebiasis.
Persons: 194 children were selected, among 865 which were attended to a private office of a pediatritian. All of them had cysts of entamoeba histolytic and present, at least, one gastrointestinal symptom or sign.
Methods: The children were distributed in two groups: one treated with quinfamida (n = 89) and the other with nitazoxanida (n = 105). At 5, 6 and 7 days of treatment the coproparasitoscopic studies were repeated. During the study the evolution of the children was recorded.
Results: The abdominal pain disapaered more frequently with the treatment of quinfamida. In the same way, de gastrointestinal manifestations and the disapaerison of cysts of amoeba in the feces, was more frequently found in childrens treated with quinfamida.
Conclusions: Quinfamida is a better option for the treatment of amebiasis in children.
