ABSTRACT

Objective: To present the case of a patient with primary peripheral neuroectodermal tumor of orbit, with emphasis on radiologic features with review of literature.
Methods: Men aged seven months with tumor in the left lower eyelid of bleeding associatede with sudden growth, confined to soft tissues without bone involvement, Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
Results: Excisional biopsy with preliminary diagnosis of orbital rhabdomyosarcoma. Subsequently immunohistochemical panel was performed with final outcome of primary neuroectodermal tumor of orbit.
Conclusion: We performed the first case report in the literature of this extremely rare type of tumor, taking into account that in total there are 10 cases reported worldwide. The differential diagnosis includes other small round cell tumors, immunohistochemical techniques remain essential. The role of imaging studies is essential to exclude other types of orbital tumors.
