ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to discuss the surgical treatments of MI, base on our experience in Hospital Nacional de Niños. Of the 20 patients treated at our institution between 2000 and 2010, 8 had simple MI and 12 had complex MI. This groups were analyzed according to treatment modality, age, hospitalization time, complications, need for additional surgical procedures, mortality. Of the 8 patients with simple MI (40%), 62.5% were treated with diluted gastrografin enemas or norm tonic solution. Four patients (50%) were treated surgical. In the complex MI group 12 patients (60%), 66.7% of patients underwent ostomy and the most frequent type was ileostomy with mucus fistula in 50% of the cases. In patients with simple MI, conservative treatment with diluted Gastrografin enema is an effective initial treatment in our hands. In case of failure the enterotomy is advisable. Patients with complex MI the most frequent surgery were ostomy with mucus fistula.
